The floor
The floor arrived!
We can't put it in quite yet because we're not finishing installing drywall, but hopefully in a week or two it'll be up. This particular shot is in our living room, comparing the new floor to the existing oak (downstairs).
We ended up choosing Lyptus for a couple reasons. It's environmentally friendly - it's not as fast growing as bamboo, but it's harvestable in 10 years (or so) instead of 25-50, and it's a special hybrid, grown in managed plantations, so there's no risk of deforestation and there's less waste due to low quality wood. Also, it's hard. Really hard. Harder than maple or oak. It's not as hard as laminate flooring, but it's harder than pretty much any traditional hardwood. Last, it looks nice.
