More Attic Progress

Drywall takes forever. Actually, we got the hard part of the drywall up in one weekend, thanks to the drywall lift we rented from home depot. I took the next week (since I was unemployed) to finish off the walls and closet, when I wasn't at interviews.

Since then, we've spend probably 2 weeks getting the seams and corners right - and we still need to touch up a couple spots. Still, it looks pretty good. Now that the new window is in, and the fan access panel is up, we've got a window A/C unit in and running - making our lives much easier when we're up there.

Next steps are to finish those last 2 or 3 spots of drywall that still need touching up, then another round of sweeping and vacuuming, then the floor goes in!

What I did this weekend

My coworkers must get a kick out of me. As NYC-dwellers, they're in apartments and condos - they don't get the joys of yardwork, maintenance, or BBQs. Most are shocked and amused that my wife and I have been spending our weekends finishing our attic (building walls, running electrical, etc.

I can't wait until I get to tell my co-workers that I got to dig up 1/3 of my front yard today, and put down new grass seed.

Ah, the joys of home ownership.

There's something on my ceiling.

Ever get freaked out by, say, a centipede running across your ceiling in the night? That startled moment where you only know there's movement on your ceiling - unnaturally smooth and gravity defying?

I've had that every damn night since Sunday.

Framing.

Well, it's done and ready for inspection. It was 'done' before, but the ceiling was actually a little too low to meet code. Oops.

So, ceiling raised and the last corner supports put in for drywall.

Walls

One of the upsides of being a designer who also codes is the ability to envision a framework as you build something. In the case of a building a wall, it's the ability to see how it should look, and how it's going to come together.
